A Carol for Christmas

3 Sleeps till Christmas

Well this is it my Friends. my last Carol for Christmas and a special one as it was the last Carol I sung as part of a school choir.

Christmas ’84… It was a good Christmas as I remember, and it was the last concert that myself and my school chums would have together. It was also the only year, in my time in the school, that teachers and pupils alike joined together as equals.

This Carol I remember fondly as it was the concluding hymn of the evening and we belted it out from the back of the church for all manner if creature to hear.

That for me was a year of lasts.

Anyhoo, I not gonna drag down the congregation, here is ‘Hark! the Herald Angels Sing’; I hope you like it.

Hark! the Herald Angels Sing

Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new-born King!
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled.”
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th’ angelic host proclaim,
“Christ is born in Bethlehem.”
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new-born King!

Christ, by highest heaven adored:
Christ, the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of the favoured one.
Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see;
Hail, th’incarnate Deity:
Pleased, as man, with men to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel!
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new-born King!

Hail! the heaven-born
Prince of peace!
Hail! the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Risen with healing in his wings
Mild he lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die:
Born to raise the son of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new-born King !”
