I’ve Been Busy…

Hey there Guys and Gals, apologies for my tardiness this week but I’ve been a bit busy and I’m rubbish at multi-tasking. I’m a bloke what can I say.

The thing is whoever said this self publishing malarkey is easy (the whole Internet) was telling a load or porky’s. The writing part in comparison is an absolute doddle. It’s all the other stuff that goes with it that I’m finding to be beyond my mental capacity.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not stupid by any stretch of the imagination; unless of course I’m in the same room as my kids, but this is really pushing the boundaries of my technical prowess. Not to mention the copyright this, tax that and self employed the other; Jeez!

And can someone please tell my what an ISBN is, I’ve been told I need one and I thought it was a nuclear missile. I jest… I do really!

‘How far have you got JC’, I here you ask. Well I’ve been struggling to find an illustrator that fits in with my very tight budget. I don’t want to spend lots as this is my first book and the return is probably gonna be extremely low to fuck all. I get that, it’s not an issue. At the same time though I do want a cover that might attract someone to buy the book.

So I’ve taken it upon myself to give it a try and thanks to good ole Pixabay.com I’ve made a few samples. I got to say, less is sometimes more and as someone who likes to blow his own trumpet when he’s in a room all on his lonesome, I quite like them.

What do you think my friends; voting is now open…

If the font on the fourth one was more like the font on the first (Who’s of first, I couldn’t resist.) then number four would be my pick. I find the warmer colour more inviting and the precision of the symbols more enticing. 😊 Good luck JC. 💖

Yeah, I get that. I’ve used that font on a couple of previous ideas and I do like it. I definitely see where you’re coming from regards the colour of four as well. Thank you Whippoorwill, very interesting thoughts. Nice one 🙏❤️

Good for you getting a book together! I hope the process gets easier for you. As for the covers, I like the first one. To me the image better fits the ‘anthology’ part of the subtitle while at the same giving an impression of a magical tome. Number four could work similarly with the title box font of the first. Number three looks like the cover to a fantasy novel. And number two makes me scratch my head as to what it is about.

The first one gets my vote! It does have a more classical look and the title is easy to read. The second one has too much bling for me and I can’t make out the title. The third seems very Halloweeny and the fourth gets my attention but I like the first one best.

The guy holding the sphere would be my first choice and the book as my second though I do think the font should be slightly different. Fonts and colors can change the entire feel of the underlying image. The purple is far too busy imo while the fourth is okay, it doesn’t pop as much. The font is the main offender there. Very thin fonts tend to be less readable.
